Presentation “Considering motivational strategies in the classroom”

It is uncommon to see students who are reluctant to engage in given tasks in the classroom although teachers and students are well aware of the importance of motivation that leads to successful language learning. Originally students are motivated to study, but they have been confronted with lots of difficulties and troubles in their learning experiences. They start to attribute their failures to negative factors such as teacher behaviors and inadequate linguistic skills, and accordingly lose their motivation and confidence. What can we as teachers do for such students? This presentation first introduces some motivational strategies commonly used in class so that we can come up with better teaching techniques to handle unmotivated students. To promote learners’ competence in learning, the role of feedback is then discussed based on the self-determination and attribution theory.

Practical report “Make a retelling activity a part of lessons”

In my second year as an English teacher, I wanted to try new activities. Therefore, at the beginning of this year, I asked the students what kind of activity they wanted to do, and compared it with what I wanted to do. After that, I decided to do a Retelling activity in the class. Today I would like to introduce this activity to you and explain how we have been doing it.
