Presentation “Is Japanese English really "wrong"?: The importance of introducing EIL perspective into English lessons”

In the current world, English is used as an international language that bridges people with different backgrounds. However, native-speakerism is still prevalent in English education in Japan. In this presentation, I will explain why the idea of English as an international language theory is important in English lessons. Then, I will introduce a study that investigated the intelligibility of “Japanese English”. Finally, some pedagogical implications will be suggested.

14:35〜15:45 Jamie HALL (Iwate University)
Presentation “Reflective Practice for Dummies: An online workshop between educators in Iwate and Nara”

A big part of teacher development comes from making sense of the good and bad experiences we have had in the classroom as both students and teachers. Reflective practice is a way of examining our experiences. In this workshop, James Hall, an aspiring reflective practitioner, will present a model for doing reflective practice. We will also hear some reflective stories from participants in Iwate, and try to make sense of them together. Lastly, participants will share their own stories and reflect on them together. The goal of this workshop is for us to provide one another with new insights and make new friends!
